Elon Musk faces possible summons before UK parliament over role of X
Elon Musk could be summoned to appear before a UK parliamentary committee to answer questions about his role in Twitter's acquisition of X
The UK parliament's Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) committee is considering summoning Elon Musk to appear before it to answer questions about his role in Twitter's acquisition of X
The committee is investigating the impact of social media on democracy and has already heard evidence from other tech executives, including Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg and Google's Sundar Pichai.
A spokesperson for the committee said that it was "considering" summoning Musk to appear, but that no decision had yet been made.
If Musk were to be summoned, he would be required to answer questions from the committee about his role in the acquisition of X, as well as his plans for the company.
He would also be likely to be questioned about his views on the regulation of social media and the spread of misinformation online.
Musk has been a vocal critic of social media regulation, and has said that he believes that the internet should be "free and open."
However, he has also said that he is committed to fighting misinformation and hate speech on Twitter.
It is unclear whether Musk would be willing to appear before the committee if he were summoned.
He has previously declined to appear before the US Congress to answer questions about his acquisition of Twitter.
