Dbacks 6 Rangers 0 - Introducing the Rangers to Dbacks 2.0
Arizona Diamondbacks Crush Texas Rangers
It was a brutal introduction for the Texas Rangers on Tuesday night, as the Arizona Diamondbacks ran away with a 6-0 victory.
Dbacks' starting pitcher Merrill Kelly dazzled on the mound, throwing six shutout innings while striking out seven Rangers batters. Kelly's impressive performance set the tone for the night as the Diamondbacks' offense erupted for six runs in the third and fourth innings, highlighted by a two-run double from Ketel Marte and a two-run homer by Josh Rojas.
Four different Diamondbacks relievers combined to throw three scoreless innings to close out the game, preserving the shutout and securing the victory. The Rangers, meanwhile, managed just four hits and struck out 10 times against the Dbacks' pitching staff.
Rangers Struggle Offensively Again
The Rangers' offensive struggles continued on Tuesday night, as they were held scoreless for the third time in their last five games. Texas hitters struck out a combined 10 times against Kelly and the Diamondbacks bullpen, and they never really threatened to score.
The Rangers have now scored just 14 runs in their last five games, and they rank near the bottom of the league in several offensive categories.
Diamondbacks Take Advantage
The Diamondbacks, on the other hand, took full advantage of the Rangers' offensive struggles. Arizona scored six runs on just eight hits, and they drew five walks off Rangers pitchers.
The Diamondbacks have now won two of their last three games, and they are starting to show signs of improvement under new manager Torey Lovullo.
What's Next?
The Rangers and Diamondbacks will meet again on Wednesday night in the second game of their three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 8:40 p.m. CT.
